This weekend was the annual Rock the Bells show and again it was at Governor's Island. The headliners were Nas and Lauryn Hill. Nas did his thing but ya'll know I've been off the "Lauryn's gonna make a comeback" bandwagon for quite some time now. I spent most of the show backstage shooting interviews with my homegirls and my team from Music Choice and we had such a good time! Aside from interviewing some dope artists like Erykah Badu and Talib Kweli I ran into some of my fav folks DJ Beverly Bond, DJ D-Nice, Immortal Teknique, Big Krit, Mos Def, Raekwon, GZA, Kim Osorio, Power, and 9th Wonder. I also met some new folks like a young mc from NC named Rhapsody, signed to the homie 9th Wonder, comedian Donald Glover of tv show Community who was performing under his rap aka Childish Gambino, and Crooked I of Slaughter House who was gentlemanly enough to come and apologize on behalf of his group member Joel Ortiz who got outta pocket during our interview (smh rappers). But my highlight, as usual was seeing the Wu perform. I'm a huge fan and find few greater joys than rapping along with the brothas of Staten Island! Below are some pics of me and my peeps and my fav, the fans throwing up their Wu w's. SUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine from Berlin was visiting NYC for the first time so I felt compelled to take her to the famed/infamous Labor Day West Indian parade on Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway. I hadn't been in 10yrs but in the wake of Kirani James's win in the 400m at the Track & Field world championships in Korea and also my upcoming trip to Grenada this week I felt it the right time for a return! I had a blast!!! Soca and calypso blasting, good food smells wafting through the crowds and Carib pride!!! woyyy!!!! If ya see flags!!!! It was just amazing to see everybody repping their countries and waving their flags!!! Large up to all my Carib massive and our parents who labored to get green cards!
