"Death of the Diva" A One-woman show

In the last 4 months I've been working on a project different from anything folks have seen me do in quite some time.  I decided to write a one-woman show about the dismantling of the female image in entertaintment.  I call it Death of the Diva.  We are currently working on raising funds, attracting investors, etc but plan to do a preview in January and run of the show in March.  You can keep u with all things about the play at DeathoftheDiva.com!

Check out the making of my one-woman show Diva of the Diva.

Get an exclusive look at the workshop of the show.  This is the first time I ever performed it.  You get to see it from it's infancy!

The Real Me (my best intrvw ever)

A couple weeks ago a director from Chicago by the name of Cam Be hit me up about interviewing me while he was in NYC.  He came by LPR while I was live painting with Pesu and shot me painting.  We then headed outside in the Greenwich Village area to conduct the interview.  He was very quiet and anassuming.  I had no idea what the interview was for as I didn't have time to google before getting to the venue.  Well, what came out of it is the best video interview I've ever had.  His ability to meld together my painting, my words, and my work is uncanny.  I watched this and actually wanted to know more...about MYSELF! lol  Big ups to Cam Be.  I truly truly appreciate this piece.  CHeck out his tumblr: http://camovement.tumblr.com/

Why I changed my name (an explanation...FINALLY!)

So it's no secret that about a month after my 30th birthday on July 1st I decided to let go of the Amanda Diva moniker I've been going by for the past 10 years and went back to my given name of Amanda Seales.  I didn't make a big deal about the name change I just--did it.  Ya know walk it not talk it.  That's the mentality.  Of course though, folks have been wondering and asking unabashedly, in some cases demanding an explanation.  The good people at www. Loop21.com wanted to know as well, so they asked me to write an essay on the topic.  Check it out below.  Hope you like:)

Rock the Bells & Reppin Grenada at the Labor Day Parade!

This weekend was the annual Rock the Bells show and again it was at Governor's Island.  The headliners were Nas and Lauryn Hill.  Nas did his thing but ya'll know I've been off the "Lauryn's gonna make a comeback" bandwagon for quite some time now.  I spent most of the show backstage shooting interviews with my homegirls and my team from Music Choice and we had such a good time!  Aside from interviewing some dope artists like Erykah Badu and Talib Kweli I ran into some of my fav folks DJ Beverly Bond, DJ D-Nice, Immortal Teknique, Big Krit, Mos Def, Raekwon, GZA, Kim Osorio, Power, and 9th Wonder.  I also met some new folks like a young mc from NC named Rhapsody, signed to the homie 9th Wonder, comedian Donald Glover of tv show Community who was performing under his rap aka Childish Gambino, and Crooked I of Slaughter House who was gentlemanly enough to come and apologize on behalf of his group member Joel Ortiz who got outta pocket during our interview (smh rappers).  But my highlight, as usual was seeing the Wu perform.  I'm a huge fan and find few greater joys than rapping along with the brothas of Staten Island!  Below are some pics of me and my peeps and my fav, the fans throwing up their Wu w's.  SUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!

[WU!!!!!!!!]

A friend of mine from Berlin was visiting NYC for the first time so I felt compelled to take her to the famed/infamous Labor Day West Indian parade on Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway.  I hadn't been in 10yrs but in the wake of Kirani James's win in the 400m at the Track & Field world championships in Korea and also my upcoming trip to Grenada this week I felt it the right time for a return!  I had a blast!!!  Soca and calypso blasting, good food smells wafting through the crowds and Carib pride!!! woyyy!!!!  If ya see flags!!!!  It was just amazing to see everybody repping their countries and waving their flags!!!  Large up to all my Carib massive and our parents who labored to get green cards!

DJing the Lenny Kravitz Samsung Summer Krush event!

I had the awesome dope amazing opprotunity to spin at the Samsung Summer Krush event at Terminal 5 in NYC where Lenny Kravitz murdaahhhhdddd!!!  To a PACKED house I played EVERYTHING!  From Prince-"If I was your girlfriend" and MJ-"Baby Be Mine to Snoop/Dre-"G thang" and Pac-"I Get Around" to the Rolling Stones-"Satisfaction" and Journey-"Don't Stop Believing"!  I ended with the classic Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and it was so awesome to hear everyone in the venue singing it in unison!  "MAMAAAAAA OOOOHOOOOOO" ya'll know it!!!!! Anywhoo the mixer as on a delay from the house so mixing was a lil tough but I got great reviews regardless so I'm proud of myself:)  Check out the pics below!  -DJ Deev

[venue was huge!]

New Music Video- "Trendsetter"

[Clockwise from Left: Me, Yoan, Laurent, Misla, Terence, Jesse]

This summer I had the awesome fortune of going to Paris not once but twice!  Second go round the good people at www.Ofive.tv offered to shoot a video for my song "Trendsetter" off my latest release Madame Monochrome.  Anyone who knows me knows that Paris is my favorite place in the world!*  I am genuinely happy as hell in this video because I'm with folks I love, in a city that inspires singing a feel good song.  And no there's no stund double, that's ME doing the back handsprings at 2:40!  So here we go just in time for the end of summer!  VOILA!

*Aside from Grenada of course.  Which was actually originally settled by the French so all the names of towns are in French so it's its own kind of Paris. But I digress...)

My quick & dirty version of My experience in Floetry

So this is the final part of my 3 part intrvw with The Urban Daily.  They randomly asked me about my experience when I replaced Natalie as the new member of Floetry and toured with now solo artist Marsha Ambrosius in the summer of '07.  In typical Amanda fashion I kept it funky.

Amanda Diva is back with part 3. Amanda Seales tells the quick and dirty version of what really went down when she was chosen to replaceNatalie “The Floacist” Stewart in the group Floetry. Marsha Ambrosius is now a solo artist and from the looks of things there wont be a Floetry reunion anytime soon.

Pt 2 of the Realest Intrvw Ever lol

Big ups to the Urban Daily for the 3 part intrvw they did with me.  I appreciate their support more than a blog post could show.  In this next portion we focused on my career and thoughts on the current state of media/entertainment...i.e. "I dream of a utopia where everyone reads books and noone listens to Wacka Flocka."

After Amanda Diva hit a home run out of the park for “Trending Topics,” I (@itsJazzyFBaby) sat down with her for an exclusive interview. She speaks on the unity among women in the music industry and how the critics over seas know how to appreciate a true artist.

Check out part 2 of TUD’s exclusive with Amanda Seales formerly known as Amanda Diva. Check us out Monday for part 3.
